Press Release: School Board Integrity Project Celebrates Nationwide Wins in 2024 Elections
Nov. 7, 2024 — As final election night results continue to come in, the School Board Integrity Project (SBIP) is proud to announce that in over 70% of school districts with SBIP-pledged candidates on the ballot, one or more SBIP-pledged candidates was elected. SBIP increased the number of candidates it supported by 251% year-over-year, including its expansion into 17 additional states.
“The students and community members in these districts are fortunate to have such dedicated advocates represent them,” said Kyrstin Schuette, Founder and Executive Director of the School Board Integrity Project. “These newly and re-elected board members bring to the forefront critical values of integrity, respect, and student-centered leadership.”
Established in 2023, SBIP helps voters understand the importance of school boards and evaluate the candidates looking to serve in the role. In the 2024 election cycle, SBIP worked alongside nearly 300 candidates that affirmed its pledge across 18 states, including 47 school districts in its home state of Minnesota.
“Thank you to every school board candidate who ran with a commitment to values of integrity, respect, excellence, belonging, and trust,” Schuette said. “It is clear we need strong, honest champions of these values on our school boards and in our communities.”
Schuette continued, “In light of the devastating results at the top of the ticket, it’s more important than ever that we have principled school board members who will defend the freedom of our students to read, learn, and explore ideas without censorship or whitewashing; support our educators and staff; and ensure every student has the opportunity to grow and thrive as their authentic selves—free from fear and discrimination. Our work is far from over, and we are ready to continue this fight, stronger than ever.”
The School Board Integrity Project remains committed to recruiting, training, and retaining school board members who advocate for public education that reflects the needs and values of the communities it serves. As the 2024 election cycle concludes, SBIP is preparing for the 2025 elections and training the next generation of school board members.
